Old dance mask representing a human face with archaic treatment. The forehead is rounded and is separated into two parts delimited in the middle by a vertical ridge and at the bottom by another ridge in an arc of a circle marking the eyebrow arches. The gaze is determined, the eyes should be circled because there remains around them the remains of a paste serving as sticky.
The nose is flattering and powerful, inspiring brutal force. The lips are full and participate in this feeling of strength. The chin ends in the face with a small triangle that stands out from the neck.
Several fastening holes were drilled and re-drilled which shows us the importance of this mask and its very long use. The interior has certainly been recut with an adze during a "re-birth" of this mask to extend its use.
According to M Guenneguez, the archaic Dan masks "are very old because they were created before we conferred a use (or lost use) on the masks - it is afterwards, it seems, that the masks received overloads. "P; 38, “Art of the Ivory Coast and its neighbors”.
Slight losses on the sides of the mask at the level of the attachment holes.
