Cavalry officer SABRE, model 1923 award.
France, 20th century
Steel, horn, brass and iron.
Total length 107cm - Blade length : 90cm - Heel width : 3cm
Brass mounting; beaded cap with dome and short tail decorated with a chiseled oak branch and laurel branch.
Blackened horn handle, with fourteen filigree cords. One-piece guard shell including the jointing arch; two frontal notches and two secondary branches. Each branch is decorated with a palm on the underside.
Single-ended blade, acid-etched on each side with scrolling foliage, a cluster of arms and the inscription :
Offered by the licensed gunsmiths of the army - Year 1936 "
The heel is engraved with the initials J&L which are separated by a vertical sword. The back is engraved Coulaux Klingenthal France. Leather tie.
Sheet steel scabbard with a single strap of bélière, finished with a stinger in lyre.
