Jean Henri Chouppe was a French painter, watercolorist, draftsman and lithographer born in Orleans (Loiret) on January 6, 1817 and died in the same city on March 28, 1894.
He opened a studio at 14 rue d'Illiers and students began to frequent it. In 1855, he was asked to teach drawing at the high school and received the title of professor in 1857. For 33 years he taught drawing in this high school.
As a student of Fleury, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1857 with watercolors: view of Saint-Malo, Plan of the Old Market in Dinan.
He paints exclusively landscapes and is mostly devoted to watercolors.
Chouppe's work is considerable. His drawings, renowned for their picturesque fidelity and precise graphics, are prized by historians and collectors of old Orleans and elsewhere.
