INDIAN KHANDA STRAIGHT SWORD WITH SCABBARD
India, Punjab or Rajasthan, 19th century
Steel, gold damascene, wood, felt
Length T.: 91cm Blade length: 71.5cm

Single-edged and counter-edged steel blade in damascus, fixed on either side by two cut-out and openwork reinforcing attachments covered with gold damascene.
The steel handle features a fabric-covered spindle and a shell guard, the latter covered with its original velvet; on the underside are two blade reinforcements comprising two chased and pierced quillons. The cupped pommel is topped by a half sphere and a long rivure knob. The whole is covered in gold damascene.
The wooden scabbard is velvet-covered with wire and iron stitching.

Very good condition. The half sphere bears a label marked 343.
