Large polychrome porcelain cookie group representing a picturesque scene of Spanish dancers.
This romantic couple is of a great quality of execution, the clothes are painted with an incredible meticulousness. The drapery and the gestures of the characters are modeled with great realism and elegance.
Installed very modestly at 132, rue du Temple in Paris, Gille transformed his store into a boutique, then into a store and finally into a famous factory, rewarded both in Paris and in London for its remarkable cookie figures. It became the royal porcelain house of Emperor Napoleon and Empress Eugenie. A successful career.
After Gille's death in 1868, the company was taken over by one of his pattern makers, Charles Baury, to become Vion & Baury.
