Important bronze with green patina, signed by the Belgian sculptor Victor Demamet (1895-1964) on the terrace, and resting on a black marble base.
First considered the sculptor of kings and queens, soldiers and resistance fighters, Demamet turned, under the impetus of his teacher and mentor Desiré Hubin, to a more personal inspiration: social themes and representatives of the world of work.
This creation, entitled "Les Haleurs", is part of this turning point in his career.
This work represents a group of men towing a boat, too large to dock alone, in canals considered winding.
These protagonists pull hard, shoulders forward, barefoot, along the towpaths.
The artist has succeeded in capturing the power of movement and the daily life of these workers of yesteryear.
    A finely executed job.
