Old anthropomorphic fetish with honey-colored patina

D.R.C. (ex Zaire), Middle of the 20th century
Tabwa people

The fetish represents a standing woman, arched, with her legs planted at calf level on a circular base. The long body has a small chest from which a long keloid stretches to the abdomen, the sex is indicated by a simple incision, the shoulders are massive, the arms are detached from the body, and the hands are placed on the stomach. A small cylindrical neck hosts a scarified face with almond-shaped eyes framing a small, blunt nose, the latter overhanging a small, prognathic mouth. The ears are horseshoe-shaped, the thick hairstyle treated in small squares.
