About the artist
Claude Venard (1913-1999) is a painter from the New School of Paris.
Claude Venard forges his own post-cubist style to which he will remain faithful and represents themes dear to Cubism: harlequins, instruments, landscapes, still lifes.
In the 1950s he tasted abstraction without giving in to it in order to keep an understanding of the subject.
He structures his compositions by the line and develops a colored chromaticism with raw tones, an intense use of bright colors.
Numerous exhibitions were held in France and abroad, particularly in New York from 1952. He exhibited at the Indépendants, the Tuileries and Mai salons from 1945 to 1963, of which he was a founding member.
His paintings have entered public collections. These include: Museums of Modern Art in Paris, London, Basel, Munich, Tokyo, Montreal, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Dallas, Buenos Aires.
