A little history about the Boulle Marquetry:
Boulle marquetry is a decorative technique using cutouts of copper, brass and red tortoiseshell cut to form negative and symmetrical designs. The period Boulle furniture dates from Louis XIV. Many quality creations were produced in the 19th century under Napoleon III.

Boulle marquetry is a technique used to obtain negative patterns made up of two different materials such as copper and tortoiseshell or pewter and mother-of-pearl. It is also called "metal mosaic" due to the use of copper or brass plates.

It takes its name from Charles-André Boulle (1642-1732), master cabinetmaker to King Louis XIV, who made it famous thanks to his beautiful cabinets, cabinets and other furniture in marquetry. He used as patterns the designs of the ornamentalist Jean 1er Bérain.
