Ancient Egypt, Late Period (664 - 332 B.C.)

Votive use:
These statuettes represent the funeral servants who were to answer Osiris' call and replace the dead man in the work of the fields in the afterlife.
Depending on the social status of the deceased, funerary statuettes are made of terracotta, stone, bronze, wood or green or blue enamelled clay, and represent the deceased either in the Osirid (mummiform) position, or dressed in the garment he wore in everyday life.
