    Ceremonial or Ceremonial AX Kilonda
Songye Culture, Democratic Republic of Congo
First half of the 20th century
    Wood, iron and copper
    H.: 38.5; L.: 25.5 cm

The triangular-shaped blade is in openwork iron and animated on both sides with an incised anthropomorphic face and two knots with twisted strands. It is held down in a straight wooden handle wrapped in nailed copper inserts.

The forge work of the blade distinguishes it from battle axes and makes this weapon a prestigious object that can sometimes be considered as a bargaining chip.
