Large three-tray server in burr cedar, mahogany and light wood fillet veneer framing a black wood fillet.

The trays are encircled by a bronze belt.

The finely molded legs end in bronze sabots.

Stamped under the last tray: "Escalier de Cristal - Paris".

Late 19th century; good home condition

Created in 1804 by Marie Desarnaud, l'Escalier de Cristal is a house located in the Palais Royal. It was taken over by Lahoche et Bouin in 1847, then by Lahoche et Pannier in 1857, and finally by Pannier frères from 1890 to 1923.

Marie Desarnaud combined crystal and gilded bronze in the creation of her establishment. The quality of her creations was unanimously recognized at the 1819 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie Française, where she was awarded the gold medal.

It was only at the end of the reign of Louis-Philippe, on the initiative of the Pannier brothers, that the store extended its activity to the furniture trade, and began manufacturing cabinetry around 1870.

L'Escalier de Cristal specialized in copies of 18th-century furniture. The quality and craftsmanship of these pieces were such that they were sometimes mistaken for originals.

L'Escalier de Cristal won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle. The company finally closed its doors in 1923.
