Created in 1859, on avenue du Président Wilson (formerly avenue de Paris), the Saint-Denis glassworks are closely linked to the career of François-Théodore Legras, who was the manager from 1867.
He arrived in Saint-Denis at the age of 24 and went from being a simple worker to the director of the glassworks in only three years.
He never stopped modernizing and expanding the means of production, mobilizing members of his family and a large workforce, often from his native region.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the factory had nearly 1200 workers.
The Legras glassworks and crystal factories offered three main types of production: utilitarian glassware for chemical, pharmaceutical or commercial use, creative colored glassware decorated with decorations and "bottles with subjects".
Perhaps less famous than Gallé, Daum or Lalique, Legras is nevertheless among the master glassmakers who have marked the history of decorative art.
His production was regularly rewarded at international exhibitions between 1880 and 1900.
She will definitively stop all production in 1960.
