This is a view of the castle of Falaise in 1829. This very old castle is perhaps the oldest Norman stone castle. It dates from about 1000 under Richard I of Normandy. It was here in 1027 that William the Bastard, the future William the Conqueror, was born. In the 19th century, it was classified as a historical monument in 1840. Today the restored castle is open to visitors.
