A rare and spectacular Longwy enameled earthenware vase, dating from the 1930s. A medallion decorated with three herons on a background of polychrome flowers, in crackle enamel on a blue ground.
Under the base, signed with the black stamp of Longwy, with the number 3167 in relief, which is the shape of the model.
Marked: Rehaussé J.M, corresponding to Justin Masson (1882-1959).
Rare in size and decoration for shape 3167, I know of only one other reference.
It is in perfect condition, with no cracks or restorations.
Justin Masson joined the faïenceries in July 1895. His work consists of applying a second layer of enamel on top of the first to give dimension and volume to the design of the piece. The quality of the enhancement will make the difference between a beautiful piece or not. This one is magnificent.
The initials of enhancers first appeared in the early 1930s.
