This cast silver necklace is made up of ten round links set with a large faceted stone surrounded by two smaller ones, they are distributed on either side of a stone cross, called Saint Lo, which has four cabochons on an openwork background, decorated with fleurons set with small stones. Under the cross is a pendant set with a round stone. The reverse of each element is decorated with a radiant and gadrooned pattern. The necklace is now fitted with a chain but it was formerly worn using a small velvet ribbon which was fixed on each side by a small link which is still in place.
This delightful necklace is characteristic of the finest production of Norman goldsmiths of the 19th century. It is made of solid silver, mounted with faceted white stones which make it sparkle. The control mark is a boar's head, however we have not been able to identify the maker's mark.
Period first half of the 19th century.
Its total length is 47 cm, but it can be tied shorter.
