The Baccarat crystal factory was founded in 1816 by the financier and industrialist Aimé-Gabriel d'Artigues (1773-1848) on the site of the former Sainte-Anne glassworks.

In 1764, King Louis XV had given permission to the Bishop of Metz, Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval, to create a glassworks on his land in Baccarat.

As early as 1824, during the National Exhibition at the Louvre, Baccarat presented magnificent crystal chandeliers and did so again during the Universal Exhibitions at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

For 200 years, Baccarat has been illuminating national palaces, royal residences, presidential residences, rich private mansions throughout the world, theatres and cathedrals in France and Latin America.
