    Officer's sabre of the National Guard or the National Volunteers known as the climbing lion
    France, circa 1790 - 1792
    Steel, gilded brass, sheepskin.
    Length. T.: 88.5cm; Blade L.: 73cm
     
    Brass mount. Leonine cap and long tail in its gilding. Tied handle, covered in sheepskin and filigree. Joint arc extending into an openwork plate with two reinforcement rings.
    Between the secondary branches, lion climbing on a tree trunk. Between the arc and the lower secondary branch, is a rooster on a grenade.
    Blade à la Montmorency, blue at the third, with a decoration on a gold background: Sun, stars, Arabesque, half-moon, bundle of weapons and the motto Vaincre ou mourir; the second part is in its original shiny polish.
    Leather scabbard, with two brass fittings; chape with button; rivet with asymmetrical iron dart
