OIL ON CANVAS 100X73CM DATED 75. TITLED "TORSE CHINOIS" (CHINESE TORSO)
In 1949, René Leidner entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, from which he graduated in 1952. He completed his artistic training by attending the Académie Baudry.
In Paris, he rubbed shoulders with Roger Bissiere, Sonia Delaunay, Alfred Manessier, Alberto Giacometti and Vieira Da Silva, and from 1950, after a figurative period, his painting became abstract. In 1960, he turned to a semi-figurative style marked by work on the material, where bodies (our work), witches, archangels, wounded men and dinosaurs are suggested in a thick paste. Then, in 1970, he returned to abstract landscape painting, still using highly materialistic canvases.
He took part in the Paris salons, and exhibited in galleries from 1965 to 1991, including Galerie Transposition, Galerie 222, Galerie Jacques Barbier, Galerie Sandro Rumney and Galerie Evelyne Dalbanes.
His works can be found in the collections of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Strasbourg.
