Painter of genre scenes, typical subjects, nudes, landscapes, urban landscapes, waterscapes, seascapes, watercolourist, pastellist. Orientalist.
He was a pupil of Alexandre Gabriel Decamps. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1841 to 1867.
He painted some landscapes of Normandy and Provence but especially views of the Maghreb countries
