Painting on panel representing Saint Jerome in his cabinet. Inspired by a composition by Joos Van Cleve, this representation of Saint Jerome in his cabinet had an important posterity. The Father of the Church is represented sitting at his work table, his finger on a skull, reminding the viewer of the fragility of his condition. These images are also for the painter the opportunity to represent the cabinet of a scholar with the many books and objects. The frame is contemporary but in style.
Pay Bas, end of the 16th century, follower of the painter Joos Van Cleve (1507 - 1540 or 1541).
