René Chrétien (1867-1942)
was a French painter who specialized in still life paintings. He was a student of the greatest masters (Léon Bonnat, Gustave Boulanger and Elie Delaunay)
He made his debut at the age of 20 at the Salon des Artistes Français and received an honorable mention two years later.
His talent earned him numerous awards, a third medal in 1894, a second medal in 1895 and a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. He exhibited in Brussels in 1910 and was again included in the Salon des Artistes Français in 1940.
René Chrétien liked to paint his still lifes on very elaborate backgrounds in shades of brown, most often.
Very observant of nature, his paintings are of a very great realism with a beautiful lively touch.
