Covered sugar bowl
Painted and gilded hard porcelain
Dimensions: D. 10.5 ; H. 20 (cm.)
Paris, circa 1810-1819
Rare tripod sugar bowl resting on zoomorphic feet. Decorated with a gilded foliage frieze separating parts with a lilac background. This piece comes from a monogrammed service whose cups are all signed. This shaped piece rarely bears the vignette mark, but it is a Dagoty model, see "DAGOTY à Paris - La Manufacture de porcelaine de l'Impératrice - Par Régine Plinval de Guillebon" p. 32, no. 10 - page 74, no. 53.
The Dagoty factory
Founded by Pierre-Louis Dagoty and his brothers in 1798, this is a perfect example of the golden age of hard porcelain in Paris. Their work is recognized by the use of "thick gold" and sumptuous painted decorations, often combined with areas left blank. Their success enabled them to become Manufacture de l'Impératrice in 1804.
Condition report:
Slight wear to the decoration, a hair that does not touch the decoration, restoration to the socket (old) and to a foot (almost invisible). The above points can be professionally restored.
