Sauceboat or sugar bowl
Painted and gilded hard porcelain
Dimensions : L. 23 (cm.)
Signed in blue underglaze on base
Boissettes, circa 1776 - 1781
Charming sugar bowl and lid, oblong and finely scalloped. The lip is indented at one point to accommodate a spoon. Decorated with seeded bunches of flowers, the contours filleted in gilding. The lid has a flower-like grip.
The Boissettes factory
This town on the outskirts of Melun was first home to an earthenware factory in 1733. As kaolin became more marketable, the factory diversified into hard porcelain from 1776. However, due to lack of profitability, it ceased operations in 1781. These 5 years have left refined and rare objects for 18th-century porcelain enthusiasts.
