    Milk pot
Hard porcelain painted and enhanced with gilding
    Dimensions: H. 17 (cm.)
    Paris, early 19th century

Superb porcelain milk jug with nankeen bottom, gilding threads and palmettes in reserve.

This color is not so common in porcelain production, and yet it was particularly popular at the beginning of the 19th century. This name, that of a city in Asia, is originally the commercial name for the cottons that were exported from there. The tone of these fabrics was very successful, so much so that Napoleon made, for example, an entire living room in plane tree wood at the Château de Compiègne.
