Rare antique sculpture in white Italian marble from Carrara. Great artistic quality, unsigned. This rare sculpture can be dated to the middle of the 16th century, during the Renaissance period. Both figures are very simple, linear and sketched as expected in this historical period. Maria's dress is rigid and without movement. Her faces are barely visible. It is very likely that this sculpture was made to be placed in a niche in the wall, and therefore visible only from the front. It is likely that some elements have been lost, you can see a hole in the hand of Mary that could have originally had a cross and on her head there could have been originally a crown.
