Cherubim-Angelots, symbolic beings of love (mythological or divine), were sown by Baroque sculptors on the pediments of both gallant and religious furniture. All the more so as, with the infant mortality rate of the time, every adult had in his or her heart a memory of a child who had died too soon. For this one, we think rather of tender love.... the elm wood with its carnal veins (but which splits) magnifies the epidermis, the quality of the sculptor is impressive.
