An antique rotating gong or Kyeezee, also called a "Burmese Bell," made of bronze. Heavy and imposing, its contours are reminiscent of a stupa, or even a Buddha.
A hole in its upper part allows it to be hung and played. When struck, it produces a deep sound, which ripples as the gong rotates on its string.
Kyeezee are traditionally used in Buddhist temples and serve to mark the beginning and end of ceremonies as well as to call the faithful to prayer and meditation.
    Burma (Myanmar), 19th century.
Beautiful patina of mixed verdigris, smoke, and bronze. Marks of ritual wear and rubbing. Provenance: Claude de Marteau Collection
    L 46 cm x H 32 cm x W 2.5 cm
    Estimated weight 8 kg
