This beautiful and important carnelian agate seal is mounted in silver-gilt, enhanced with white and black enamel, some worn, and set with garnets and turquoise. The setting, openworked with arabesques, features armored soldiers within the reserves. This highly refined Renaissance-style object, like a piece of jewelry, is likely Austro-Hungarian and dates from the mid-19th century. The seal features, beneath a count's crown, the bust of a man in armor above an owl perched on a branch.
