Maison Lecan presents this parlor ball game, the tabletop version of the French casino game of chance. The square frame is made of dark wood. In the round bowl made of light wood, the numbers 1 through 9 are stenciled twice. In the center, a metal cup features blue-enameled compartments, and the wooden ball comes to rest in one of them.
You roll the ball, wait, and either win or lose. The concept hasn’t changed in a century, and it’s still just as much fun. On the side, a small brass plate bears the letters “JAL.”
It is sold as-is, with the signs of a well-used game: scuffs on the frame and oxidation on the central cup. Placed on a coffee table or shelf, it serves as a decorative piece, but it won’t stay there long before someone starts playing with it.
