Notes : Large sashimono standards dominated the battlefield as visual and symbolic landmarks. Taller and more imposing than individual banners, they signaled the presence of a leader, the position of a unit or the authority of a clan.
The Inaba clan, vassal of powerful lineages such as the Oda and then the Tokugawa, embodies the model of the faithful, pragmatic samurai. Originally from Mino province, they distinguished themselves by their political acumen and ability to adapt in unstable times. Through figures like Inaba Ittetsu, the Inaba clan illustrates a discreet strength, based on loyalty, endurance and realism rather than the quest for glory.
