A very beautiful "Okua"-style mask.
The face is covered in kaolin of exquisite fineness. The eyes are half-closed, and a raised nasal ridge extending from the headdress descends to the tip of the nose. The mouth is open, revealing the teeth. The round ears are in relief and adorned with beaded earrings. The raised scarification marks between the ears and the eyes are typical of these Okua masks.
Aside from the quality of its craftsmanship and its aesthetic appeal, what makes this mask unique is that it has retained its headdress. It is intricate and lends the mask a sense of grandeur. It consists of a woven raffia fabric adorned with cowrie shells, strips of fabric, braids of plant fibers mixed with human hair, nuts, half-shells, and beads. The patina on the inner surface is very well defined.
