Chamba female statue
Africa - Nigeria - Middle Benue
41,5 cm - heavy and dense wood
Early 20th century
Figure of an ancestor or spirit, the attitude recalls certain postures of the statuary of their Mumuyé neighbors. The ears are trimmed with scarifications on the cheeks. Beautiful old black and crusty patina with traces of pigments: kaolin, yellow ochre and red ochre.
There is a quality base in bronze and resin adapted to this statue which does not stand upright off the base. It is included in the price, but its weight will increase the price of transport.
