A large statuette known as a Tugubele, depicting a woman seated on a stool, her hands clasping her navel, wearing a hornbill headdress, and with a prominent mouth showing teeth, is typical of Senufo representations*.
Our example was likely brought back around 1950. The annotations on the stool still bear the inscription:
Ivory Coast, Senufo, Kalembele, Pozo Brotherhood A82.

I believe this brotherhood is more likely the Poro Brotherhood.
No visible restoration; sold as is.

    Delivery available via Chronopost for:
    France €30
    Europe €50
    Other countries €80
*The Senufo (or Siena, the name they call themselves, or also Senefo, Sene, Syenambélé, or Bamana) are a West African people comprising about thirty subgroups, spread across southern Mali (mainly in the Sikasso region), Burkina Faso, and northern Ivory Coast, where Korhogo, their main center, is located.
The Senufo people are one of the largest ethnic groups in Ivory Coast, representing nearly 10% of the population.
The Senufo number approximately 1,500,000 people, divided into more than thirty subgroups.
Each subgroup has its own characteristics, but they share several cultural traits that unify them: language, surnames, and social and religious organization.
