Kambata Headrest – Ethiopia
Kambata (Kembata) people, southern Ethiopia.
A beautiful antique headrest made of hardwood, characterized by an elegant curved seat resting on four openwork central posts, framed by two lateral posts entirely decorated with fine geometric carvings. An everyday object as well as a symbol of prestige, it was used to protect elaborate hairstyles during sleep and often accompanied its owner throughout their life.
This piece displays a beautiful patina from use.
