    CANE of AUTHORITY
    Ovimbundu Culture, Angola
First half of the 20th century
    Wood and brass nails
    H.: 37; L.: 3.5 cm

Cane in light wood with a handle sculpted with a female bust with a characteristic elaborate hairstyle, openwork, incised with streaks and punctuated with upholstery nails. The top of her body takes up this ornamentation of brass nails on either side of a small suggested chest.

The upholstery nail was a marker of prestige and made it possible to accentuate the value of the object.
