Senufo culture, Ivory Coast
First half of the 20th century
Wood, iron and walnut
H.: 16,5 ; L.: 7,5 cm
(old crack)
This monoxyle stirrup is animated by a zoomorphic Janus figure: a pair of horns meet to form a circle on the top of the animal's oval head, its angular jaw opens onto small incised teeth, its nose is straight and its eyes in arcs of a circle.
The stirrups were used to hang the loom's heddles.
It bears an old handwritten collection number: 3521.
