This is a remarkable stone-headed war club, nicknamed a "skull cracker," dating from the 19th century, from the Lakota Sioux. The club is 40 cm long and has a large 13 cm stone head, wrapped in thick sinew and attached to a hide-covered handle. The head is decorated with a unique feature: a rolled tin cone, suspended like a bell, from which small tufts of horsehair hang. In the middle and at the end of the handle are two sections of linear beadwork, accompanied by fringes as trim. The beads used are glass, typical of the trade of the time. The object is well preserved, considering its age.
