Melo-melo shell Gam pectoral - Papua New Guinea

An important pendant known as the Great Men's Ornament. It's made from part of the Melo-Melo shell, which is particularly large. Holes allow a rope to pass through, enabling it to be worn as a pectoral. Beautiful surface patina. Small accident on the shell, probably of natural origin.
This shell, used by the Dani peoples, would have traveled many kilometers to reach the Highlands region.
