Rare traditional Papuan currency called "Talipun" collected in Papua New Guinea. The people of the village of Yangoru make highly stylized masks or figures from basketry and attach them to the shells of the giant marine snail "Turbo marmoratus", which they obtain from the coastal tribes. The finished object is then kept by the Yangoru, who use it or trade it with the Iatmul, who use these strange, composite works of art as dowries. Minor wear. Approx. 33 x 21 x 17 cm / €1,200 incl. shipping.
