Beautiful patina of use for this ancient "mosquito" mask referring to the mythical male spirit called "Parak" or "Brag". The Parak spirit is linked to initiation ceremonies and hunting. He is supposed to help the hunter flush out game. The region of origin of this type of mask is in the Mambe lands, but this typical form has nevertheless been found all along the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, from the mouth of the Sepik River westwards to the eastern regions of Kairiru Island. Here, joined hands finely sculpted under the eyes. Wood and plant fibers. Lack of use. Sold with a presentation base. Approx. 51 x 14 x 17 cm / €1,300 including base and shipping.
