Painted bark collected in the Washkuk Mountains region of Papua New Guinea. Kwoma ethnic group. These paintings on sago palm bark decorate the inside of roofs and the pediments of ceremonial houses, depicting either abstract or figurative representations of ancestors or clan beliefs. Assembled together, they line the ceilings and pediments of these large, prestigious huts.
