    Kanak culture, New Caledonia
First half of the 20th century
    Wood and plant fibers

    (accident at the peak)

Puzzle or battle club in carved wood which owes its name to the stylized shape of its head. Indeed, the distal end, serving as a weight for the club, looks like a stylized bird: it stretches to a point similar to a long beak until it forms a kind of gutter ending obliquely giving rise to the crest of the animal; finally a small round protuberance recalls the eye.
The handle is long and cylindrical, covered on the proximal part with a recess of material forming a wide ring.
