<meta charset="UTF-8" />Great and exceptional cult figure akin to the so-called "Yena" figures. Collected in the Upper Sepik region of Papua New Guinea among the Nokuma people. Yena figures are linked to the cult of the yam. They are placed above a large pile of tubers during the first ceremony (there are 3 in all) organized at harvest time, to thank the ancestors for this sacred gift and ensure a good harvest the following year. The Yena figures symbolize the planting period and evoke the digging stick used for transplanting the yam plant into the ground. Very dense wood with a beautiful patina. Figure mounted on base. Approx. 124 x 27 x 25 cm 2600€ including base. Free shipping for France, 100€ for Europe.
