Japan, early Edo period (1603-1868), rare and very old statue of the Shinto god represented standing, in formal garb, arms in prayer posture.
This superb sculpture is in a good state of preservation, apart from the eroded wood and a few chips due to repeated abrasions and rubbing. Traces of soot from candles once placed around the statue.
Height 21 cm The scale indicator on the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
