Vietnam, 19th century, very pretty and unusual scholar's tray in wood inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Made on two levels, it allowed its user to place the utensils necessary for writing on the upper tray and to protect the sheets of paper from light and dirt by storing them in the low structure.
The work was carried out with care and the marquetry covers the four external sides with a decoration of characters, animals, plants, pagodas, ideograms and sinograms.
This tray is one of the essential utensils for the scholar. It allows him to organize himself to work with concentration and serenity.
Dimensions: Length 32.3 cm. Width 19.2 cm. Height 9.6 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a brand known to everyone.
