    Black lacquered wood case with gilded chinoiserie decoration - 19th century

    Elegant rectangular black lacquered wood box, richly decorated with gilded scenes and motifs in the Chinese style.

    The decoration, in the manner of Martin varnishes or European lacquers, features stylized landscapes with pavilions, fences, vegetation and figures, inspired by the Far East.

    The lid features a central scene framed by foliage and friezes, while the sides feature a continuous pattern of Chinese gardens.

    The box rests on four small bronze feet (claws) and features a diamond-shaped keyhole with antique mechanism.

    Sober, black-lacquered interior.

    Typical of Chinese production, 19th century.
