Unusual box depicting a rabbit, carved in wood, probably makura (pillow), Japan, Edo period around 1800.
The lid and the bottom are pierced with 4 holes through which the hinge links passed. Those at the bottom are inside the box probably allowing for stability of closure, they are not visible in the photo.
At the front and back of the box, a pin fits into a hole to guarantee the stability of the closure.
L 40 CM X D 14 CM X H 18 CM.
