A pair of oblong covered vases in Blue John bronze with green, honey, and bluish veins and touches of violet.
They are mounted with beautiful "ormoulu" ornamentation, that is, gilt and chased bronze typical of Matthew Boulton's work.
The body is adorned with superb, finely chased ram's heads, and the base with lotus leaves. They rest on a base with a fluted foot and a laurel wreath. The foot rests on a stepped square base with curved corners.
The handle is formed by a pine cone-shaped seed on a leafy base.
Some minor old restorations and cracks due to the fragility of the material.
Very good overall condition.
This pair of vases, mounted in blue john glaze, is of exceptional quality and reminiscent of the work and production of Matthew Boulton around 1780. Models of this quality are rare on the market, and our covered vases offer highly original color variations that are difficult to capture in a photograph.
