  • A feature that stands out are the brass mount fixtures.
  • With a posting slot on the top to slip your letters through and a door that opens on the front to access your letters, which has a dividing area inside for letters that are for letters going out and for letters that are going in, you can see the fitted brass plaques saying In & Out.
  • You will love the Gothic Pugin inspired designed shape.
  • Handmade from out of tiger oak wood.
  • So collectible and would make an exceptional gift.
  • With working lock and brass key & having a green velvet lining underneth to the base.
  • A nice size as it stands 38.7 cm tall and 22 cm width.
  • Circa late 19th century Victorian Era.
  • This is a very rare example that was commissioned for use in a country stately home private chapel, where family members or guests could deposit there mail to then be taken to a post office by the servant. 
  • It has been beautifully finished with a mounted Pugin inspired Gothic-design brass straps, also having strong steel hinges, on top with a brass mounted with letters engraved inscription on the slot aperture on the top.  Also fitted with a brass escutcheon, lock with key. The interior has been fitted with a rather nice lined crimson red colour paper, with a central divide in the centre with brass plates labelled "In" and "Out" .
  • The door has a decorative gilded brass plaque showing the makers who was Hardman, Powell & Company Birmingham Fecit" set in fine Gothic script text format..
  • Hardman , Powell and Company were the later reincarnation of Hardman & Co , the company was established in Birmingham in 1838 as manufacturers of stained glass and ecclesiastical fittings . The company also collaborated with A.W.N .Pugin and also with his son E.W Pugin .
    The company was a massive influence on Catholic Church architecture and decoration also in Gothic Revival.
